You get what you pay for July 29, 2010 MsChief Just got my speaker dock & was very excited to use it. I never read manuals & was able to get it running w/ my 80 GB zune right away. The remote control works well but really needs line of sight to work properly. It also doesn't control all functions on the Zune. Bottom line is the sound is very weak & too much mid tone. It would have been nice to be able to control bass & treble separately. I think it would work fine at your desk or a small area like a bathroom, but it doesn't sound good in a large bedroom. Lastly, the clock light is so bright its like a night-light. other than that, the small footprint is also nice.
Some parts don't work July 26, 2010 LoveMyZune The clock on this unit doesn't really work - it displays a time, but it is only right 70% of the time - it will show strange things like 4:93 insead of 4:53...the remote control also doesn't work at all. We changed batteries, we followed the directions in the book, everything, but it never worked. I would have returned it, but my husband threw out all the packaging before he set it up.
All that said, we are still using it to just play music and it seems to work just fine for that. We set the Zune on shuffle and just let it go.
Liked it so much, I bought three! July 24, 2010 Charles Strehan (Norwalk, CT USA) I did buy three but one was a gift. Since the choices for external speakers for a Zune are limited, I was very happy to find this product. The price was right and the sound is good. I have one unit attached to my bookcase stereo system and the other attached to computer speakers for outdoor use. The third one is being given as a birthday gift (today!).
I highly recommend this system to Zune owners!
Unreliable, wouldn't buy again - but sounds decent when works July 22, 2010 Babyheat913 My family bought 2 of these - had to return one because it completely stopped working one day, rec'd another one fairly quickly without hassle, so that was nice. These units are just completely unreliable. None of the remotes work worth a damn for any of the 3 we've had, totally worthless. Every unit consistently does weird things - requires restarts of the Zune at least a couple times a week to get the unit to work, clock display goes crazy sometimes, playback will randomly stop and won't start until you hit the play/pause button (which wouldn't be as bad if the remote actually worked), and sometimes restarts the zune on it's own during playback. I have grown to hate this thing over time and would much rather have paid $50 extra for something that works, like I believe the Altec Lansing dock was at the time I bought this one.
The unit sounds good when it's working, if there were no quality issues this would be a five star unit based on the sound it puts out and what it costs. The EQ is nice, limited settings but better than nothing.
I also partly think this unit messes the Zune up somehow - my Zune's internet browser stopped working completely, can still get to the marketplace but the browser doesn't work. I researched it and a manual firmware reinstall usually does the trick, but did nothing for mine. On our other Zune it will no longer put out sound through the FM transmitter, and the transmitter works it just isn't getting the music through the output and the bottom of the unit. Two weird things and the only thing in common with the two Zunes are that they use these docks. It's all conjecture, but the Zune just doesn't seem to mesh well with these things at all.
Zlive speaker system July 14, 2010 A Davis (SLC, UT USA) I bought this system for my kitchen. It's perfect. The sound quality is not like a really nice stereo system and not so great for entertaining or a party. But it's great for what I purchased it for. And it doesn't take up much space.
