WIsh it worked! July 19, 2010 LJohn I got this for Christmas and really didn't use it until this summer on the boat. The first day out it worked great. Played the Nano for several hours. Brought it home to recharge and get ready for the next trip. First - it doesn't play music while it is recharging from zero. It has really strange noises and the Nano will stop playing. So I read the reviews from others and determined that the charging system was quirky. We let it charge overnight - brought it on the boat - where it played off the batteries - and played for like 5 minutes - and shut off. I have it home charging again - no light is on - and from other reviews - it sounds like it should have a green light to show it is charging. I think the sound is great - but I wish it would work. From other reviews - it sounds like I have a bad charging system. If anyone who reads this has any advice - I would appreciate it.
Can't stand on its own feet May 18, 2010 DanJo (East Wenatchee WA USA) I connect my MP3 player to this device, and, as such, it suffices as a speaker. The main problem I have with this product is that it was poorly designed for standing upright. It is top heavy and its foot print is such that even the slightest jarring of it will cause it to tip over. It needs its base to be extended rearward to make it more stable. Amazingly, the unit is designed such that its center of gravity is further back than it would need to be, exacerbating the problem that already exists.
The other strange thing about this device: Its charging light is green while charging, and when it's fully charged the green light turns off. That seems counter-intuitive. Shouldn't the light be red while charging, and turn to green when finished?
Great Product April 29, 2010 Redfish (Colorado) I received this as a Christmas gift prior to my deployment. I brought it with me to the Middle East and it has performed quite well. I used it everyday and will continue to use it in my office at home. It charged my iPod Nano 4G and enabled me to play music in my room. As an added bonus, the internal rechargeable battery enabled me to turn it on when the power went out so I could drown out the beeping alarms from the hallway. In short, I love this product. If you are looking for an inexpensive device to charge your iPod and play music at home/office or outside at the park this is it. If you are looking for top of the line stereo sound with booming base and crystal clear high volume audio you should keep looking. This will not deliver such things, nor should it be expected to at this price point.
Good product if you get one that works. October 2, 2009 J. Donaldson (Camarillo, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Finally I can post my review of this product. Third times a charm. When I purchased the first one for my wife's birthday through Amazon but sold and shipped from ANTonline it would not take a charge. It worked fine on AC power but the battery never did take a charge after two days of being plugged in so I arranged to return it.
ANTonline's policy is NOT to exchange this unit but to return it for credit then I had to order another one. The real problem was I ended up paying $17 shipping which killed any savings I may have hoped for by buying through Amazon. This was all stated in the ANTonline policy but it really burned me to have to pay to return a defective product. End result: I'll NEVER buy from ANTonline again.
When I ordered the second unit it was now sold and shipped by Amazon. Great! However the second unit had the same problem as the first. Of course I began to doubt my ability to use it correctly at this point but really you plug it in and... not much else to do here so I determined it really was bad. This time however I got the great Amazon service I've learned to rely on. Free return shipping and Amazon sent a replacement unit before receiving the bad one. Finally, three weeks after my wife's birthday she has a fully working unit. Now on to the review.
Before purchasing I went to a couple of brick and mortar stores to check out the wide range of docking speakers available. There are better units on the market than this one for a price, and worse ones too even priced higher. On balance I thought this one sounded pretty good for the price. There are four speakers, all have the soft ring around the outer edge allowing the cones to move quite a bit. The larger speaker at the bottom is about 2 1/2" in diameter and the smaller on top is about 1 3/4". I think the sound reproduction is actually quite good. I would have bought it on the spot but Fry's Electronics didn't have any in stock so went through Amazon.
Now that we have a working unit I'm pretty pleased with the sound and so is my wife. It's no boom box with deep base but the sound is pretty clear and undistorted. It works just fine with her Gen 2 Nano and my Gen 4 Nano which it even charges. This thing is dead simple to operate. There are three buttons on the side, power, volume up and volume down.
A bunch of stuff is supplied with the unit including just about every kind of docking plate for iPods, although we leave them all off and just stick the Nanos onto the connector. A wall mounting plate is included and the design has a swivel connector on the back so the AC cord can come out the back when on a flat surface or straight down if hanging on the wall. There is an 3.5mm jack on the back to plug some units into the box other than ipods.
The battery compartment is screwed shut but inside is a standard telephone type of battery pack with 4 cells so it seems one could replace it if need be. We haven't tried to see how long it will last on batteries yet.
The remote works great and allows volume up/down, track changes, and power on/off. With the iPod stuck into the unit you can still use the click wheel which is nice. I have a docking station on my power amp but it locks out the click wheel and I have to use a cumbersome TV display and remote to select tracks.
I'd have given this 5 stars but for the 2 defective units I had to go through before receiving one that worked.
Not bad August 4, 2009 Neil Allen (West Virginia) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For the price it's not bad at all. Doesn't sound to good at high volumes , but these small speakers aren't made for high volumes anyway. I use it listen to my MP3 player at work or home. This comes in very handy when I want to listen to an audio book while performing those undesirable household chores.
The first unit I received had a faulty battery and would not hold a charge at all. With electronics you will have that sometimes. Anyway I visited the online returns center and Amazon.com had another shipped out the next day. The one I have now works good.
The internal battery is a nice feature. The day after fully charging it (to the poster above, all rechargeable items will require you to charge them first) I tested the battery life by leaving it running on the battery and it lasted about 16 hours before running out of juice.
Like I said it's good for the size and price.
