| Customer Reviews: Perfect for the Mac mini April 24, 2010 Jan A. Bergeron (The Villages, FL USA) I bought this speaker to use with my Mac mini, because the built-in speaker on the Mac mini is terrible. This little speaker works great. I'm not after high fidelity sound, just sound that I can hear. And the fringe benefit is that it matches the Mac mini Apple Mac mini MC239LL/A Desktop perfectly. The speaker is white and brushed aluminum and it sits on top of the Mac mini perfectly. You would swear that Apple made it to go with the Mac mini. I use the USB power cable, which plugs right into the Mac mini. If you use only batteries to power the speaker, turn it off when not using it. I left mine on and it drained the batteries overnight.
PS. If you insert a product link into a review, DON'T test it! If you do, you will lose your review and have to start over. I learned the hard way.
NO AC adapter August 18, 2009 Steven Shank 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
These are perfectly acceptable speakers. I use them for audible books. There is no volume control, that must be supplied by your mp3 player. However, the description is deceptive and you should be warned. Despite saying AC-Adapter, there is NO AC adapter. You will need to buy one, so you should figure these $17.95 speakers will cost you about $30 if you intended to use them with the AC Adapter which is specified in the description.
They are very good $15 speakers. They aren't very good $30 speakers, so you might try something else if you intend to make use of the AC Adapter.
good speakers July 16, 2009 William J. Meehan 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I also have the 3rd gen ipod nano-so I had to buy the cable to play it-($6.72 with tax at target for 6ft length)
the unit itself is 9.99 at best buy.
yes at high volumes it will distort-but each song is different volume-and the 3rd gen ipod nano has a EQ on it-so I can change if I want to (rock, small speakers, etc.)-which reduces distortion. the battery compartment is hard to open.
also I use it my boat-set it against the windshild on the center console-and the sound bounces off-sounds very good.
Excellent product and price! July 11, 2009 T. Nguyen (Southern California) I bought this speaker, so that I could listen to it whenever I work alone in the pharmacy on the weekend. The quality is unexpectedly excellent for its size. It delivers crisp and clear sound. The loudness is comparable to that of a small boombox, which is more than enough to fill a small room. It is 100% compatible with iShuffle. And for those who have a classic iPod or any other mp3 players, there is an auxiliary cable (included) that you can connect with your device. This speaker uses 4-AAA batteries. However, the handy USB cable (included) is a great alternative for when you want to conserve battery life. For $18, in my opinion, you can't find another great speaker like this anywhere else. But, don't take my words for it. Try it for yourself.
Pretty good volume March 13, 2009 Sean C. Carter (Granite Bay, CA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this to use in somewhat louder situation where my MacBook's speakers don't cut it (which, admittedly, is just about anytime I'm not in a totally silent room). It does a pretty good job for that purpose. In a completely unscientific test I found it to be somewhere around twice the volume. The sound quality drops quickly after about 2/3 total volume though. For voice (podcasts in my case) it was still listenable though. The ability to power the speakers from a free USB port on my MacBook is super convenient! Not having batteries in it keeps it very light, lighter than my iPhone (are you detecting a theme here? Yeah, I'm an apple user) in fact. 4 Stars for volume and convenience. Would have been 5 if it was a little better quality sound, but for $18 I can't complain. See the photos I submitted above for some better angles and detail than the stock one.
