Volume Control April 14, 2010 J. Taylor This was exactly what I was looking for my desk at work. It has the tilt or landscape function to watch your iTouch movies/videos, but the volume control was either loud or really loud. On the lowest setting and with my iTouch volume at it's lowest could be heard 10 to 12 cubicles away. If you don't mind having everyone listening to your music or podcasts with in your office space this is for you.
what were they thinkling?! March 26, 2010 Stephen B. Wall (Mesquite, Nv. USA) It played if plugged in. I have to agree with all the others that the sound is high or low but misses the in-between that one listens to. My main gripe is that the batteries discharge when off and undocked...just sitting there. I was careful to make sure it was off, but that made no difference...a few days later and the batteries were dead. It was given to me by my kids as a Christmas gift so I have no option except to say "You got me good, Jensen".
Works Fine February 8, 2010 Chicken Chaser (Brookfield, NH USA) I was looking for a small, inexpensive ipod speakers/charger for my wife. This product turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. It fits on the window sill in our kitchen and my wife now has her music while she cooks and makes cheese. The sound quality is not superb, but it is good and certainly adequate for her needs.
Way too freaking loud or not loud enough...your pick February 2, 2010 TrixieD (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I needed this for my office, where we're not allowed to use headphones anymore. I thought for the price tag, it would be a decent product, and loved the compact size and that I could put my iPod touch in landscape mode. However, the buttons for the volume do not allow you to fine tune it enough. When the sound is way too soft, the next push of the button makes it way too freaking loud. No in-between. And even when it is on the too quiet setting, it will just get REALLY LOUD for no reason. Out of the blue. I have to turn it off when I leave my desk. It doesn't retain the sound setting either, so when I turn it back on, I have to quick hit the down volume button fifty times, or else it will automatically turn on at full volume. A bit embarassing. It would be perfect if it wasn't for the volume issues - maybe if it had a volume knob, and not those useless - and + buttons.
Didn't quite work out for me... December 30, 2009 Dave Fitz (Tampa, FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Despite giving this speaker dock 3-4 stars in each of the individual attribute categories, I could not bring myself to give it more than 2 stars overall. The main problem for me was, as has been covered by another reviewer, the volume control. I use the term "volume control" very loosely here and was horrified to find out just how bad this was implemented. You can forget about this one altogether if you plan to use this in an office setting such as a cubicle that requires low volume. Apparently, the volume is 'controlled' in increments and when you try to go from zero volume to the next lowest setting it jumps WAY too high. I've never seen (or should I say heard) anything like it. For that reason alone I could not bring myself to give it even 3 stars.
To be fair though, the speaker set isn't all bad. For example, the higher the volume, the less control was an issue for me. The sound quality isn't exactly horrible given its size either. If you plan to use this product at mid-volume, such as in a kitchen while cooking or outside on the deck it should be fine. I'm guessing this unit was designed with the iPhone in mind as it is a perfect fit and slides into landscape mode almost effortlessly.
As a final note, I want to point out that this unit goes into sleep mode after five minutes of non-activity and powers itself off automatically after 30 minutes of non-activity. While that may seem like a good feature to most people, it was actually another reason I decided to return the unit. I was hoping to use it in conjunction with an iPhone alarm clock application. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this...after the speakers powered themselves off, the alarm could not be heard through the speakers. Since most people probably would not use this particular speaker set for that purpose, I did not factor it into my 2-star rating whatsoever. Just thought it might be worth mentioning.
