5 out of 5 stars Awesome product   September 9, 2009

I found this product by accident when checking reviews on other iPod alarm clock radios. I'm glad I did. Jensen has been a highly respected sound system provider for more years than I can remember and this is no exception. The sound on this unit is beyond awesome; I have truly NEVER heard such good sound on a small unit - ANY small unit. That alone makes it worth the price, which was less than many other lower rated units. It is true stereo sound and is top notch on every type of music I tried. I have it in my bedroom; now I want one for my office and one for the living room. Dear Santa......

The iPod dock is terrific. It is recessed when not in use. Since it is on the bottom front of the unit it is much safer to use than units with the iPod dock on top. One is much less likely to knock the iPod off and damage the pins at its base. I have a 4th generation nano and it works fine.

The CD player was not on my initial wish list but I find it is the feature I use most. When I played the first CD I discovered that "noise" on the CD was actually a specific, and very pleasant, sound!

The alarm allows you to wake up to CD, iPod, radio or buzzer. I love having such a variety to choose from. I especially like being able to program the unit to turn off after a predetermined time when I go to bed. Sometimes I use a pillow speaker and that works well with this unit. Headphones also work nicely. Another feature I really love is the lighting on the clock. You can choose bright or dim and if you hate sleeping with any light you can hit the sleep snooze and the light goes out completely.

I get decent FM reception but have never managed to pick up an AM station. Of course, I've never been able to get AM in the bedroom anyway so it isn't something I miss. There are more station presets than I need.

At first I thought the remote didn't work. It does, but is a little slow. It did come with the proper battery. The remote is very lightweight and has no way to "hook" it anywhere but a bit of velcro attaches it to the night stand nicely.

The controls are not as clear as they could be. They are also difficult to see in dim light. Also less than stellar are the instructions. On the other hand, that aren't that hard to figure out.

That said, the negatives are far outweighed by the positive features, especially the sound and the price. I think it deserves 5 stars; it is definitely, by far, the best.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good for the Price   March 31, 2009

I couldn't find a review for this model anywhere, so I decided to write one to hopefully help out my fellow shoppers.

This is a very nice all-in-one iPod dock. I wanted something with at least an AM/FM radio, but I also wanted something more than just a glorified alarm clock. This model fits the bill and the CD player is just icing on the cake. It does have an alarm that allows for wake up via buzzer, iPod, radio or CD, but I haven't tried this out yet. (I don't wake to music, so this feature is pretty useless to me).

First off, the sound quality is exceptional. Granted it IS just a small unit, but it packs a punch. The stereo separation is decent - something that some of the wireless models like the iSymphony W2 can't claim since they're sending a monaural signal to each speaker. The bass is decent and it does not sound "tinny" at all. The four EQ presets help fill out the sound a little better, although the `Jazz' one is a little lacking in richness.

I was impressed with this unit's ability to fill a room as well. I have it on a bookshelf between the kitchen and the great room (with 16 foot high ceilings) and it fills both rooms and even carries upstairs.

It has a 3.5 mm connection for headphones for private listening. It also has an audio out to play non-iPod MP3 players as well as other devices. (Sorry, I haven't tried this out yet either).

All that said, the system is not perfect. The controls on top of the unit are a little unintuitive. There's one button labeled "Mode" while there's another labeled "P-Mode." Also, selecting one button brings up the iPod menu, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to navigate to the other songs. The best I can figure is that you can get to another song only by selecting the forward or backward buttons. The manual doesn't explain the iPod's menu navigation.

Also, the remote is a little slow to respond. And finally, the FM tuner picks up some stations really well and others are filled with static, but that's probably due to where I live.

I chose this over the Sony which had similar features but was $40 more. I had read some of the other review of Jensen iPod docking radios and they had gotten very good reviews, while the Sony had received less than stellar ratings.

One final thing I'd like to note is that the iPod sits in front of the system rather than protruding from the top. I prefer this style since I think sitting on top is an accident waiting to happen. It also charges both the 3rd and 4th Generation Nanos. Hope this helps.
