Amazon.com Product Description -- Posted May 22, 2008 Amazon.com Product Description -- Posted May 22, 2008 The JBL On Stage III portable loudspeaker dock is the ideal travel partner. Imagine the convenience of taking the JBL On Stage III speaker dock on the road or enjoying the sound right at your desktop. Connected to your iPod, MP3 player, or other music source, it produces clean, powerful sound--while also charging your dockable iPod. With the help of the IR remote, you can take complete control of your music with the JBL On Stage III loudspeaker dock. Take complete control of your music. | Combines many proprietary technologies for the highest quality sound, offering astonishing bass and clear sound from any direction. | Compatible with docking versions of the iPod, including the iPod touch, iPod nano 3G, and iPod classic 6G. | | Which Dock Is for You? JBL's been in the iPod dock business for awhile, so it's no surprise that the company has crafted enough models to keep up with an ever-increasing army of iPod owners. Which one is right for you? Well, that depends what kind of pod person you are: For the Power Hungry For those who seek more volume, the On Stage 400ID should be your first stop. At 2x15 Watts, it's the loudest and largest of the bunch, and features an Atlas woofer for added bass. But size isn't everything--the On Stage Micro boasts the same wattage rating without the woofer. For the Weekend Warriors Those who need a dock that they can take anywhere should investigate docks that can be powered by batteries. The On Stage Micro runs on four AAAs, whereas the On Stage IIIP and On Stage III run on six. Take your music to the beach, on camping trips--wherever you can't bear to be without it. For the iPhone Techies The iPhone owner--if you can stand to put the thing down--has a couple choices. The On Stage IIIP provides a smaller and more portable option, or the On Stage 200ID gives a bit more power. These two docks support all docking iPod models as well. For the Featurephiles or Heavy Sleepers Some of us just aren't content with basic functionality; we need more buttons, more lights. Others just need a little nudge to wake up in the morning. If this is you, then the On Time 200ID and 400IHD are for you. Both feature an alarm clock and AM/FM radio, with the ability to wake up to your favorite song stored on your iPod (and then reject it with the snooze button). Of course, for the masochists, a classic buzzer is also available. The On Time 400IHD adds a dual alarm clock and HD radio to the mix, for a crystal-clear signal and a variety of text-based information (artist name, song title, weather alerts, school closings, etc.) scrolled across your screen. Something for Everyone All of these models feature a remote control for full iPod navigation, Evercharge topology to charge iPod even when not connected to a PC or the system is turned off, a mini-jack for auxiliary devices, and the sleek design and solid performance you'd expect from JBL. | Compatibility The JBL On Stage III system is compatible with dockable versions of the iPod, including the iPod touch, iPod classic 6G, and iPod nano 3G. A stereo mini jack connection also allows you to enjoy high-quality audio from a variety of other devices, such as MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all platforms), satellite radio, and laptops. Easy-to-Use Music and Navigation Controls Just a touch of the music controls increases or decreases the volume. Using the navigation controls, browse songs, playlists and photos, change tracks and settings, and more. Connection Versatility The JBL On Stage III loudspeaker dock is a multimedia focal point. Enjoy your iPod, view photos or videos, and listen to virtually any other auxiliary audio component, all through the JBL On Stage III system. Additional Features - IR remote--The JBL On Stage III IR remote has several modes of operation. The Music mode allows you to control the volume, change tracks, fast forward, and fast reverse. The Navigation mode allows you to access menus on your mobile digital device just as if you were controlling the unit itself. You can search your music, watch your slideshows, and find and play your videos.
- Evercharge topology--The system charges your iPod, even when not connected to the computer or if the system is off.
Advanced Technology The JBL On Stage III loudspeaker dock combines many proprietary technologies to provide the highest quality sound, astonishing bass, and clear and accurate sound from any direction. - Odyssey transducers--The Odyssey drivers deliver accurate high frequencies while capable of low-frequency extension of four octaves, unlike traditional powered tweeters. This design provides a full, rich frequency response, from low bass to the highest highs.
- Slipstream port design--The port minimizes boundary layer separation, producing high-output bass with low distortion.
- COE (Computer-Optimized Equalization)--The system equalization is computer-optimized to provide a rich, complete soundstage over a range of listening positions.
- OCT (Optimized Compression Topology)--The proprietary compression technology ensures clean, accurate sound at high output levels.
- AEMS (Advanced Energy Management System)--The automatic battery-saving shutoff will automatically put the system into Sleep mode when there is no audio input. The system awakens with just a touch and resumes at the same volume level.
- Battery-powered--The JBL On Stage III system uses most types of AA batteries. Six fresh AA batteries allow up to 12 hours of continuous play at normal listening levels. An amber LED flashes when the battery protection circuit senses that the batteries are low. Consider rechargeable batteries (e.g., NiMH) to reduce waste and help the environment.

No repair service. Died and now just junk. June 22, 2010 Thomas Ehrlich (USA) The unit has always had issues with charging and playing from my iPod touch. It was as if it did not recognize the iPod. Same with the iphone. Usually would work if the unit was turned on and off a few times. Now nothing. Called JBL and was told the unit is not reparable. Not very nice.
Great speaker system! May 15, 2010 S. Yang We just picked this up from Costco and the model number matches this model and not the IIIP. It's compatible with the iphone 3G and 3GS, charges both, and the sound quality is great for such a small, compact speaker system. The multi-directional speakers fill the room and boy does this thing get LOUD! It came with many different attachments and we found one that fits the iphone perfectly. It may have been updated or perhaps Apple updated the iphone firmware, so now this speaker system works just fine with none of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. We bought it for outdoor activities (beach, yardwork, pool, etc) but now it's become a fixture in our bedroom.
Not worth the gamble March 16, 2010 AKreader (AK USA) I bought this JBL docking system for my itouch ipod after reading other reviews. I had high hopes, and the system worked well for exactly 31 days. For its size, the speakers put out clear, balanced sound (not too heavy on the bass), I could move it easily, and I was happy! Alas, since I purchased the dock at Best Buy, the store only accepts returns for 30 days. One day past this date, the JBL On Stage III started making deep humming noises which would only stop if I turned it off and pulled my ipod out. This happened intermittently but frequently. It would work well for 4-5 songs and then blast out that deep hum, with no music to be heard. Also, because it requires batteries, I've been unable to use it without the batteries when it's plugged into an outlet. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. It's possible there is a short in the cord, so I will borrow another and see if this helps. However, I'm out the cost, as I see it, but I've also quit using it because I don't want to risk damaging my ipod. I would not recommend this product. Period.
Rita November 10, 2009 Ms. Rita V. Szebeni The speaker is really a high quality stuff, the service was just fast and perfect! Thanks Rita
Not enough of a rich sound October 24, 2009 George J. Trauten (Chicago) Had hoped this little unit would provide more of the bass range but just feel the sound was not of the quality we had hoped it would deliver. It's not a bad little unit, just think the Bose portable delivers a more rich sound than this unit. You have to decide on the money you wish to spend. Unit appeared to be solid and I liked the remote unit. But the sound is what we wanted the most.
