Customer Reviews: Perfect alarm clock July 12, 2010 brrman My wife routinely gets up before me. She used to have an annoying little clock that "blarp blarp blarp" every morning and it drove me nuts, so I bought her this.
It works fine with the iPhone 3G. Charges the phone and allows you to use the phone while it is plugged into the unit. Music is a decent enough quality to enjoy in the bedroom - I would not buy this mainly to listen to music in a very large room though.
The bed shaker works great. It wakes her up early. Sometime I feel it but I fall back asleep immediately - definitely not as intrusive as a radio or blarp. The unit has a second alarm that I use to get up - I have it set to use the speaker on the main unit (though I could use the shaker as well if I wanted).
One feature I really like is the ability to dim the display. It can be quite bright on the highest level, but through 10 levels you can get it down to just a hint of light. And even on the lowest level you can see the time in daylight from across the room.
Overall, a great alarm clock. I am impressed with the design and how well it is thought out.
Excellent. I would definitely recommend this for any iPhone 3G/3GS owners! July 7, 2010 DreaKaye First of all, I don't know why a fellow reviewer complained about the incompatibility with the iPhone 4 because it is obviously made for the iPhone 3G/3GS.
But besides that, I own an iPhone 3GS and have been having a blast with this dock clock. Being a college student who loves music and could use an alarm clock, charger, and radio all in one, this product achieves it all. I use it every day to easily change alarm times as I go, or keep them constant throughout the week, and can change the way it alarms [radio, radio+shaker, iPod, iPod+shaker, buzzer, or buzzer+shaker]. It really utilizes variety so you don't have to listen to the same, old buzzer over and over again.
As said in the description, you can set up two alarms -each with the option to set it to alarm only on the weekends, only on the weekdays, or on both. You can easily disable/enable either alarm (that's already set) with the convenient push of a button, and without losing the settings of the alarm(s). Additionally, you can adjust snooze time lengths, which is also great.
Now coming to the sound quality, I may not be an avid sound enthusiast, but the sound is pretty amazing. My music is wonderfully clear and whole, fills up the room, and the bass is just phenomenal for what I paid for. Teamed up with the new OS4, my expediently changeable playlist allows me to enjoy any songs, any number of songs when I wake up or go to sleep. All of the music apps or any other app with sound work perfectly with the speakers as well. Quality all the same with the radio -feels live every time.
The dock also leaves sufficient space to accommodate a phone with a case (though, I've only tried with my semi-slim-fitting case; a case such as an Otterbox MAY possibly fit -but don't count on me, lol). Just be careful because the ample space can enable the phone to stop charging if it is slightly tilted to the side, which usually only happens if you have headphones attached to the iPhone while it is on the dock and it's tugged (otherwise, it's snug and safe). (P.S. docking the phone automatically sets up the time, so you're always certain of an accurate time).
In regard to the shaker, it is definitely loud/strong enough to wake you up if you were anywhere near or on your bed, but not obnoxiously loud or strong. I would describe it as a pleasant shake. With the shaker, you can adjust the volume of music/sound going through if you choose to have it play (low, medium, loud). It might seem weird to place a bulky, hard, shaky thing under your pillow, but the size, weight, and wire are completely perfect to me -sometimes I forget it's there. I like to use the shaker because it always ensures me that I will wake up and can sleep as deep as I want, getting optimal sleep the night before. And I can wake up to Michael Buble's splendid voice as if it was live right next to me. Just wonderful!
The dimmer and snooze sharing the same button wasn't really a problem at all, and the buttons are smooth and lovely at touch.
Despite the maybe overwhelming features that some might perceive, everything comes together so harmoniously.
Sooo, to sum everything up...
Pros: Fantastic sound, sleek design, magnificent compatibility, easy and convenient setup at any time, and superb features
Cons: there is no remote (but it doesn't make anything any harder)
You don't need to spend more for an iHome or anything else if you need a great bedside alarm clock -I can probably promise that this will satisfy!!
Beware new iPhone 4 users June 26, 2010 Gregorito (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Product is great and I've enjoyed the purchase. Sound is pretty good and alarms are awesome and loud enough to even wake the dead. LOL. My only complaint is that the brightness level/snooze button are the same. I keep changing the brightness by mistake all the time when I hit snooze more than once (and you know it ought to happen when you really want the extra 5 mins). I would have given it a 4 stars but the product is not future proof despite only 3 months on the market. Since I've got iPhone 4 I noticed that time sync does not work and that phone shows message that product is neither optimized or designed for iPhone 4 interchangeably. Quite annoying.
Wonderful Solution for Quiet Waking June 3, 2010 Wife&Mother (IL United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is the first time that I have ever written a review for a product. I was hesitant on buying it the first time because there were no reviews. Even after owning it for only one day I felt compelled to write a review as I see it is getting only a two star review and it deserves so much better.
I first saw the Iluv Imm178 in a magazine advertisement and thought it sounded wonderful. My husband has to get out of bed at 3:45 for work in the morning. To avoid waking our children up he has always used his alarm on his phone and put it on vibrate. He then clenches his phone all night long and wakes often to ensure he is still holding it. Obviously, he doesn't get a lot of sleep because of this. So, when I saw the bed shaker I thought it would be wonderful (if it worked) so I got this product although I was hesitant because of the lack of reviews. I did look at the older model and considered it but when I looked at the negatives in the review, it looked like the company fixed all of the complaints and I definitely believe they have.
Well, it came in yesterday and although it has only been a day I am so pleased. Now, if you are expecting a Bose sound system, you aren't going to find it. Don't get me wrong, the sound it great, but let's have practical expectations for a $100 alarm clock. The sound surprisingly can fill a room and the bass and treble are adjustable to what your music preference is. We were very pleased with the sound.
The entire unit is easy to use. I had no problems setting the alarms and all the bells and whistles. It really does have quite a few wonderful features. You can even set the snooze to different time increments. It can return 5,7,9, or 15 minutes later. Finally the bed shaker, the reason why I bought it. We first gave it a test run before bed in which I set it 5 minutes ahead. I actually forgot I had set it and it made me jump so high when it went off! My husband used it to wake him up this morning and he woke up immediately. I am surprised that it would not wake up some people. Anyway, we are happy and no more cell phone alarm clock! Thank you Iluv!
good but not good enough for the money June 1, 2010 W. Tyrone Montgomery (lorain, ohio) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
i was thrilled when i found the iluv alarm with bed shaker, but when i opened the box and found that i spent $100.00 for a glorified alarm clock i was sick to my stomach. i thought the clock was bright and could be seen across the room but the sound was not the best. i thought that when i set it to wake from the touch it would turn it on and play but it would play the last song that was listened to. there was no remote control with this alarm and the bed shaker did not work. all in all i would not recommend this alarm clock because of the cost, no remote and the sound was not the greatest. i thought that for $100.00 i would get something better.
